| While many local families in need receive gifts of clothing or toys from a parish giving tree, many still need help to meet more direct financial needs, such as food, prescription costs, rent and utilities. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
- Mother of two small children was abandoned by her abusive husband. Her own illness has drained her of all available finances and the ability to care for her children. Her father, who was of some help, recently died and left her to fend for herself. Despite all this tragedy, she continues to struggle and sacrifice so that her children can have some level of normalcy in their lives.
- A woman lost her husband recently and has struggled with poverty for years. She remains loyal to caring for her aging mother and two grandchildren, whose parents are deceased. She tries to work, but is seriously hampered by an on-going illness that makes a permanent job highly unlikely. She is a person of great faith and great ability to live with hope during her struggles.
- A Vietnam veteran and victim of Agent Orange has been diagnosed unemployable because of his trauma. While having an operation, a mistake left him with a stroke and physically and emotionally debilitated. Today he tries to survive on a very small pension that keeps him in slum living conditions.
- A woman has been trapped in the poverty of being abandoned by her husband many years ago with several children to raise. She brought her entire family into the church, asking her pastor to be godparent for the children. She has managed to keep close to her church, her senior center and her children. She is now helping to raise grandchildren and to give them the values she has lived.
- Mother of three children has stage 3 ovarian cancer. Her husband has a landscape business and has no medical insurance. Their bills are piling up and they may be forced to sell their home just to pay the medical bills. She receives chemotherapy two times a week or more. She has been told she has six months to one year to live. The family is overwhelmed with grief.
- Two boys, 3 and 5 years old, have been diagnosed with autism and demand all of their mother's time. She gave birth to her daughter just after her husband was deported. She chooses to stay in America as a permanent resident so that her boys may receive medical care and schooling not available in Albania. She loves her children very much and is struggling to put food on the table.
- A single mother with four children between the ages of 2 and 9 is unemployed. She is unable to work due to two children having special needs and therefore cannot afford daycare.
- Couple with two small children, ages 2 and 1 year, both lost their jobs a few months ago. They fell behind on their bills. Recently the wife found a job. They are afraid they may be evicted if the husband is unable to find work. They all need winter clothes and help to keep their utilities current. They truly are struggling and fear there may not be presents for the kids this Christmas.
- This young couple is struggling. They have two children ages 3 and 4. Husband works part time at a fast-food restaurant which enables him to pay for their rent. Their gas has been shut off for a few months and they just had their water turned back on after a shut off. The church has helped with food but they need winter clothes and help with utility bills. Their will be no presents at Christmas without assistance.
- Grandmother is living on a fixed income while raising her grandson and paying for his Catholic high school education.
- Grandmother is raising her grandson and has very little income.
- A single mother who currently earns minimum wage struggles to provide for her grandson who lives with her.
- Mother was working full-time for the airlines but due to economic conditions is now working only part-time. She has two children; a first grader and a child in day care.
- A single mother of two girls, ages 6 years and 4 months does not receive financial support from the father who is in jail. She works a low-paying job and barely makes it as her child care costs have risen.
- A single mother of three young boys, one of whom is disabled, receives minimal assistance from DHS and medical help for her children. She worked part-time but had to quit as her son's medical needs and testing have increased. She is part of our religious education program and helps when available.
- Couple has two children ages 8 and 5. The 5-year-old has severe asthma and was just diagnosed as a diabetic. Their doctor bills are high. Husband recently lost his job and his wife is pregnant and unable to work. They are in need of winter clothes and help with utility bills. There will be no Christmas without help. Husband needs your prayers that he will find a job soon.
- Husband and father of three children, ages 5, 3 and 19 months, has lost his job and is now working only part time in a mobile home park where the family lives. They are in need of winter clothing. They recently needed help with an eviction notice, now they fear an electric shut-off. The church has helped with food and diapers. There will be no Christmas presents without help.
- An engineer was laid off. His wife left him and his son. His unemployment has expired. He has lost his home and is presently living with his son in the basement of his sister's home. He receives Medicaid for his son. He is finding it very difficult to find employment. Anything you can do for him would be a blessing.
- Husband and father of two boys ages 11 and 13 has been laid off from the auto industry. His unemployment compensation has been used up. His wife is currently working at a fast-food restaurant and he is looking for work. They are really struggling to just pay their rent.
- Mother, separated from her husband, has lost her home. She and her three girls are living with relatives here and there. She is looking for a job and hopes to find a mobile home to live in.
- Mother of three girls, ages 16, 13, and 12, worked at a grocery store for a number of years until they closed. She found a job but it is for a low wage. They are really struggling to make ends meet.
- Single mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She currently has a job as a secretary but with minimum pay and benefits. She is able to pay her rent and provide for her family with the help of her family. Any funds given to her will help her stay out of debt and pay medical bills.
- Grandmother, 68, is trying to care for three grandchildren, ages 5, 4, and 3. She struggles to feed and clothe the children on Social Security. The cost of her medicine, utility bills, taxes and child upkeep forces her to work part-time as a cleaning woman. In spite of all this, she keeps a neat and cozy home for these children.
- Divorced mother of two daughters, ages 2 and 11, is experiencing difficulty in meeting rent and utilities monthly. Father of children is a known drug/alcohol user and is inconsistent with financial responsibilities and visitations. Each child has health problems (severe allergies and seizures).
- Struggling family of five are long-time parishioners. While both parents work, they are frequently in need of food. We have given food from our pantry and recently assisted them with utilities. Funds would be appreciated and used for food or necessities.
- A two-parent immigrant family struggles to cover expenses. They approach our food pantry weekly even though the father is employed. There are three children and the family is very involved in our parish.
- Parents have two boys -- one is hearing impaired and the other has a serious medical condition. Their medical expenses are overwhelming. They are regular clients at our weekly food pantry.
- Father has been injured while doing construction work but has found seasonal work. He and his wife have three boys ages 10, 8, and 5. The middle boy is autistic, deficient in speech, and hearing and sensory sensitive. They are weekly clients at our food pantry.
- A devout Catholic family with nine children struggle to provide the basic necessities for the family; heat, lights, water and gas for their van. The clothes dryer needs to be replaced. The family is grateful for any assistance they may receive this Christmas.
- The parents of seven children are struggling to provide food, pay utilities, and provide clothes for their children. The father works long hours at a minimum paying job. The mother works part time to help pay the bills and faithfully volunteers at church in lieu of a weekly donation.
- Single grandmother is caring for her four small grandchildren, all younger than 9 years. In 2008 they were victims of a house fire, lost everything, and relocated to a new home. She is struggling to pay off an extremely high gas bill.
- Married couple survives on Social Security disability income. They have two children, ages 3 and 7, and live with other family members. Husband is disabled with scoliosis and wife suffers from lupus. Donations would help family with many medical bills and afford a little something special for their children at Christmas.
- Widow is caring for her 21-year-old autistic son and two grandchildren, ages 2 and 3 years old. She is struggling to pay bills from her minimal monthly income from Social Security. She is faced with an extremely high gas bill, a car repair bill, and with on-going medical bills. Donations would help this family purchase a much needed refrigerator and a few gifts for the children at Christmas.
- Married couple is trying to reestablish their lives living solely on Social Security disability income. They recently paid off a large electric bill but have fallen behind on many other bills. Their 20-year-old daughter lives with them and is pregnant with her third child. Funds are needed to help this family get caught up on their finances and hopefully buy a few gifts for the children at Christmas.
- Wonderful elderly man, whose father was killed by the communists in Albania, is proud and happy to be in America. He and his wife have become citizens this year. He has not been able to find steady work due to his health and age. They both live on his wife's small wages. Often they forego medicine and health care to pay their rent.
- Wife has lost half of her relatives to immigration deportation and is left to care for a sick son and an ill husband. They are very poor and without a good support system.
- Man is undocumented with four children; one child is mentally impaired with many problems in a special school. He works but is without insurance or a Social Security number. When he is fired it is very difficult to find another job. Family is having a hard time surviving during these poor economic times.
- Man had a terrible accident nine months after moving to this area. He was in the hospital for three weeks without insurance. The amount he owes is high but he has been allowed to pay it back in minimum monthly payments. He is three months late in paying. He was fired because of his accident and is currently not working. He is alone.
- Woman is from El Salvador. She was a teacher in her country. She married in El Salvador to an ex-seminarian. They came to the USA looking for the American dream. After one difficult year her husband abandoned her. She attempted suicide twice. The parish helped her by paying for her therapy. She is now depressed and having a difficult time affording her daily life.
- Man moved here from Nicaragua four years ago. He works occasionally in the farms for less than minimum pay, and is unable to find another job. He lives in the trailers on the farm with two more families who are almost in the same situation. He has two children and a wife. Sometimes it is too difficult to pay for his expenses for food and clothing. They come often to the parish for food.
- Divorced single mother with one son, age 12, works two jobs to try and make ends meet. Their house is in foreclosure and they will soon be evicted. They do not know where they will live. They are also in need of grocery assistance.
- This is a family of seven with a baby on the way. Mother is employed; the father is temporarily laid-off. They are having a very difficult time making ends meet and keeping food on the table. They have moved several times to keep the cost of rent down, and still are having difficulty paying rent.
- A single employed mother and her teenage daughter are in need of assistance with utility bills and food. Mother has medical issues that occasionally keep her out of work.
- The parents of this family of four are employed at low-paying jobs. Both high school and adult children have medical issues and limited mental capabilities.
- Single mother with three boys is in great financial need. The father moved out of the state and is non-supportive. The children are in desperate need of dental work, but are unable to afford it.
- Father of two young boys recently had surgery for cancer and is now receiving radiation. He had to take short-term disability leave and now the family is behind in rent and other bills. This family needs financial help to keep them in their home during their father's illness.
- Husband, and father of five children, has been unable to find full-time employment for several years. He has been working part-time on and off. The mother is trying to make money house cleaning. They have received help from the food pantry several times.
- Family of eight, with a new baby on the way, recently became full members of the Catholic Church. The mother stays home with the children and home schools them. This family could definitely use any extra money to help cover current and upcoming bills.
- Single, 61-year-old woman, is unable to work because she has cancer and other medical problems. She is foregoing needed treatments because she is the sole caregiver for her son who has medical problems. She has been waiting for Social Security disability for three years.
- Mother receives Social Security income due to a heart condition. She wants to work but can't get a doctor's release. She and her three children live in low-income housing without insulation in the home. She is behind in her bills and the gas is shut off due to owing $2,000. They have a food debit card from DHS.
- Divorced mom with two children receives little or no funds from her ex-husband. Her 11-year-old is autistic and 12-year-old is a slow learner. She is employed at a department store but now her 86-year-old mother cannot continue to baby sit for her due to her health. The parish is helping her with bills and she now needs major car repairs.
- Grandmother, with guardianship of six grandchildren, is struggling with their household finances. She works part-time after her hours were cut at a nursing home. She needs help with utility bills, back rent and hopefully a few Christmas presents for the kids.
- Pregnant mother of two (due at the end of the year) received an eviction notice due to being off work for medical reasons associated with pregnancy. She needs help with back rent, baby items and hopefully some Christmas presents for two children
- Woman's 19-year-old son just moved back home with his new wife and baby. She has been out of work for 6 months due to the company downsizing. She has been interviewing and is hopeful that she will get a job soon. She is currently behind in her utility bills.
- Husband and wife, with two small children, have both lost their jobs in the last two months. They are behind on their bills and have applied for assistance from the state until they can secure new employment.
- Man moved to our parish community because of foreclosure on his home. He is an Army veteran who served our country and received an honorable discharge. He is unable to work because of a debilitating arthritic condition and lives on a fixed income. He and his wife are parents of three daughters.
- Young man's mother died of cancer two years ago and was buried through our parish. The family home was sold to pay for her medical expenses. After a brush with the law, he was remanded to boot camp. While there, he completed his GED and has learned life lessons. He is committed to starting over with a new attitude toward life.
- Family of five. Mom and dad were in a car accident. Dad sustained a closed head injury and is unable to work. Mom has back and neck injuries and is undergoing surgeries. They have three daughters in high school and are in danger of losing their home.
- Elderly couple in their late 80s, are unable to make ends meet during these challenging times. They need help obtaining fuel oil for heat and money for food.
- Woman is employed by the parish because she needs the work. She is very dedicated. She supports her son who is out of work.
- A widow, who lives with her invalid sister, tries to keep up with food staples. Our parish helps her with food at the end of each month. Both are long-time parishioners who support the church each week from their limited resources.
- A mother of two school-age boys works two jobs. Her husband is presently unemployed and searching for work. The family is experiencing hard times and needs help.
- Single mother of two children works 12 hours each day to support her family and to give her children a Catholic education. With what little time she has, she is active as a volunteer.
- Life is a daily struggle for a young mother of a 10-year-old. She has lost her job, received an eviction notice, and had her car stolen. She desperately wants to give her child a secure life and faithfully seeks employment.
- Single mother of three teenage children, two of whom are disabled, is barely managing to support her family working two part-time jobs. She is in need of basic necessities such as food, clothing and utility bills.
- Wife was laid off and husband works only sporadically when he is called back by his employer. They have three children, including a 3-month-old. Furnace is in need of replacement.
- Man suffered a closed head, back and neck injuries and receives worker's compensation. He is in a hospital bed and is unable to assist the family. His wife has been unemployed since her organization closed. They are struggling to feed their three children ages 4, 5 and 11.
- Woman was the caregiver for her terminally ill aunt who recently died. In addition to being a single mother of two children she is now guardian to her teenage nephew. She is on disability and unable to work. She has been struggling for years and is in danger of losing her home.
- Husband and wife with seven children younger than the age of 14, were homeless when they came to our parish two years ago. They are now living in low-income housing but are unable to find steady work. They are struggling to provide food and pay utility bills.
- Husband was diagnosed with brain cancer a few years ago and has now been recommended for hospice care. They have three children younger than the age of 9. They lost their health insurance and the family is struggling to make ends meet. His wife worked but recently had to quit due to her husband going into hospice.
- Single mother of three is desperately seeking employment. She is working odd jobs – whatever she can do to make money. She brings the children to Mass every weekend and to religious education weekly. She would deeply appreciate anything.
- Single mother taking care of a teenage son. Mom cannot work because of medical condition. Mom tries her best always, and loves her son. She has difficulty paying monthly bills. They faithfully attend Sunday Mass and contribute every week.
- Man fell from a roof this past summer and broke both his legs. He has three children. He is not able to return to work. Their only source of income is from DHS and from his fiancé. The family has had a difficult time paying their bills.
- A 20-year-old mother with a 2-year-old son works part-time and attends school part-time. She recently took custody of her two brothers younger than the age of 16 after they were abandoned by their mother. Financial assistance from DHS just started but she is having a difficult time catching up on her bills.
- Elderly lady was the matriarch of a large family. She is now bed bound with a serious illness and relies on help from her 69-year-old daughter. Her other two daughters (one disabled), and her three grandchildren live with her as well. They need help with food and basic necessities.
- Mother and teenage daughter are trying to claw their way out of poverty. The daughter was working while going through counseling to deal with growing up in a violent, substance abuse situation. The family recently lost everything in a fire, was homeless for several months, and now needs to start over.
- Single mother has very little income and is struggling to pay utilities. She has four children, one of whom has special needs. Though her needs are great, she will appreciate any help.
- Single parent father of two teenage boys had managed to carve out a nurturing existence for the family. A serious injury disabled him for months this past summer. Without income he lost his house, car and virtually everything. His job was kept open and he is now rebuilding their lives.
- Senior woman needs help paying utility bills this winter. She is a widow who lives in her own home which is in need of repair. Any gift will help relieve her constant anxiety.
- Single mom with two children. She is not working because she is awaiting surgery. She has lost her home and is trying to re-establish herself. She suffers and tries to deal with anxiety attacks and depression the best she can. She needs financial assistance to help with her monthly bills.
- Woman lives with her two daughters and five grandchildren younger than the age of 5. She has recently returned to work to help with house payments, food, car repair, etc. The money is not enough to pay for the necessary bills, and a little extra at this time of year would be so helpful.
- Mother has been taking care of her disabled daughter for 40 years. Despite her hardships, medical bills, etc., she volunteers and is always helping people in need. She has a kind heart and never wants for herself, always thinking of others. It would be nice if someone would do something special for her.
- A married couple, with six children younger than the age of 10 is having difficulty providing the basic needs for the family. The father was recently laid off from his job. The mother lost one of her part-time jobs and her present employment only covers the rent and utilities.
- Mexican immigrant family, legally came to the United States 4 years ago hoping for a better life. During a recent routine medical checkup, the mother discovered she had cancer. They need to confront this serious situation, but due to medical costs, this Christmas will be very simple with minimal gifts, if any, for the 3 children under the age of 14.
- A Mexican mother of 3 children born in the United States; A year ago her husband returned to Mexico and has not been able to return. She works hard to bring them up in the faith, all of them serving diligently, participating and helping out in their parish. She works while they are in school, but they are poor and could use help with utility bills and Christmas presents.
- A devoted hard-working couple immigrated to the United States several years ago looking for a better life for themselves and their children. The father lost his full-time job when the factory closed a little over a year ago and he has been doing odd jobs to make ends meet. Even without much money, they believe in hope and trust in God's providence. Mother is pregnant with her sixth child; oldest is 13 years old.
- Husband and wife believe in living their faith by helping out in the parish and in their children's schools. Mom stays at home to raise the children with sound Christian family values. Due to Michigan's economic crisis, dad is now out of work until at least spring. The family is struggling to get by and rely on food pantries and community help to make ends meet.
- 40 year old single mom was evicted after being laid off. She is going to school in a government training program to acquire new skills. She has two children ages 12 and 6. She is a very hard working lady and very appreciative of any help we are able to give her.
- Mother of 4 children, recently separated from her unemployed husband, is looking for permanent employment to support herself and her children. She has received some assistance with over due utility bills. Please consider this family in offering them a beautiful Christmas.
- Single mom is raising 8 children by herself. Two of the children are attending college on scholarships. Laid off from her part-time factory job now attends a local college to learn a new trade.
- Couple with 2 children has fallen on hard times this past year. Husband recently became disabled and has been unable to work for over a year. The wife works part-time. They have cashed in their 401k to pay for medical bills and to purchase a car for family transportation to and from the doctor.
- This is a loving couple who are struggling to raise nine children.
- Single mother is raising 5 children under the age of 15. She has a daughter with heart problems.
- 57 year old father is on SSI due to disability. His wife is a homemaker. They have 2 teenage children at home. Their oldest daughter has been diagnosed with mental illness, leaving her unable to take care of her 5 children. He and his wife have adopted the children and are challenged financially.
- Energetic mother of 6 children under the age of 17 is in foreclosure and desperately needs assistance for the home repairs, appliances and help with utilities. Basic necessities are in short supply. She is valiantly trying to keep the family intact.
- A family of seven children, ages 2 – 7, has moved to a new rental. The mother is frantic for beds and linens so the children do not have to sleep on the floor. They are in need of all the basic necessities. Two children were born premature and have eating disorders which compound the tight finances.
- Family of 8 was evicted without notice and with no resources. The entire family carried their meager possessions down the street to a new rental. Their monthly income is under $1500 and they cannot meet the electric plan. Father has a heart condition, mother has been chronically ill, and one of the children suffers from a blood disease. They are in need of clothing and basic necessities.
- Single mother of 3 small children; baby has Down's syndrome and has had 3 surgeries since birth. Mother is unable to work, as she makes 3 trips per week to the hospital for the child.
- 36 year old mother had a stroke a year ago and has been unable to work. Family has been unable to keep up with expenses and raise their teen-age daughter. In addition, they are in litigation for an auto accident (which was not their fault) due to a lack of insurance which they had dropped because of financial reasons.
- Family with 10 children younger than 18. Father has missed a lot of work due to an injury this past summer. They are now facing financial problems. They have a child with Downs Syndrome who recently required surgery.
- Single mother of four children works three jobs to make ends meet. She is Catholic and attends our Church. She is dedicated to providing a safe environment for her children. She struggles with her ability to meet their financial needs.
- Family is experiencing financial difficulties after the father was injured and lost his job. Bills have been increasing while the mother searches for employment. They are in need of basic necessities such as food and rent, and Christmas gifts for the 3 children younger than 15 years old.
- Husband with 3 daughters, lost his wife this past summer to breast cancer. While his wife was in ICU, he was laid off from work and he is now in jeopardy of losing his house. He and his family have been parishioners since 2004.
- Man was diagnosed with diabetes and is losing his vision. He was the sole supporter of his wife and 2 children. They lost their house and his wife is working part-time. His youngest son suffers from autism and must have special education.
- Son is taking care of his elderly parents who are both sick. He lost his house this year and was forced to move into a small apartment with his wife, 2 children and his parents. He works in landscaping during the summer time; he has less work in the winter.
- Woman was divorced this year after suffering from domestic violence. She has two children, is pregnant, and is due to deliver in a few months. She was working in a local restaurant but was laid off due to her condition.
- Mother with three children younger than 12 years old is surviving solely on Social Security. She is in need of Christmas gifts for the children and food for the table.
- Mom with heart problems would like to have food and Christmas gifts for her 5 children under the age of 16.
- Disabled mom with 2 daughters; one child has been physically challenged since birth. They are in need of assistance with food and Christmas gifts.
- Single mother of 8 children, one of who is developmentally disabled. She was recently hospitalized with her second heart attack and was cut off from food stamps and medical assistance because she was unable to appear for recertification.
- Vietnam veteran, married with two teenage children is unable to work due to back injuries, and suffers from Agent Orange related problems. Family needs assistance with food, medical bills and Christmas gifts.
- Separated mother of two children is unemployed due to a physical injury, and suffers from anxiety attacks. She cares for her retired mother-in-law who lives with her.
- Family with six children and no medical insurance. Father is unable to work due to medical problems and the mother's salary barely covers the rent and utilities. Family needs assistance with monthly medicine and Christmas gifts.
- Divorced mother with 5 children is without child support. Father is terminally ill. Oldest daughter, 15, has severe diabetes. Mother must stay home to take care of her and has very limited income.
- Single parent Mom with 3 daughters has Crohn's disease and is unable to work. She needs help with winter clothing and utility bills.
- Family of 4 with two children under 13 years old. Mother has terminal cancer. Father only works part-time to take care of the household. The family has many medical bills and needs help purchasing winter coats and paying utility bills.
- Single mom of a 15 year old daughter does not receive child support. Her hours have been cut at her job. She is having difficulty paying utility bills and needs winter clothing for her daughter.
- Wife works two part-time jobs to make ends meet. Husband is unable to work due to mental health issues. Son is 16 and daughter attends a local college. They need help with food and utility bills.
- 46 year old grandmother has been facing several major medical issues. This past year her daughter was diagnosed with cancer and 3 year old grandson is diagnosed with a rare brain disease.
- An 83 year old grandmother on a fixed income with several medical problems is in need of financial assistance. She needs help with medical and utility bills. She is generous with her time and limited energy. Christmas gift would help her obtain needed prescriptions for a better quality of life.
- A 50 year old grandmother is head of a large household of 11 people, ranging from 1 to 19 years of age. She is the sole wage earner of this family. Due to a medical emergency and rehabilitation she has been off from work since early 2008. She needs assistance with medical bills and Christmas gifts.
- Young mother of two was diagnosed with MS this year. She is struggling with this disease as she continues to work and take care of her family. She needs help to relieve some of the stress related to medical bills and Christmas gifts for her family.
- Father, a truck driver for an automobile supplier, was laid off for several months. He is now back to work and is also working a part-time job on Saturdays to make up for lost wages. His wife has severe neck problems which require surgery, and is unable to work. Both teen-age children are seeking employment without success. Money has been very tight all year and receiving help would be a welcome boost at Christmas time.
- Mother of four children is unable to work due to medical reasons. Children are all under the ages of 11 years old. They need assistance with Christmas gifts and their van needs repairs.
- Woman is the head of a household with 7 members who are unemployed but seeking work. She receives no aid from the government. She is close to being homeless and has no funds to buy her children holiday gifts.
- Husband and wife both work and have two children. The wife just returned to work after medical problems. They are now trying to pay down their medical bills and keep up with their mortgage and expenses. Both parents have long commutes for work, which causes both time and financial stress.
- Husband works full-time while his wife is dealing with head and neck trauma due to an auto accident. With three kids, they are just barely able to provide food, clothing and shelter. A surprise Christmas gift would help reduce some of the financial pressures on this young family.
- Running a small business and raising 6 kids younger than the age of 17 takes every bit of energy these two people have. Business is slow, and collecting money owed is even slower. The children include three adopted children with special needs. Putting food on the table and keeping up with their energy bills is a struggle.
- Mom works full-time and Dad is going through a long and painful rehabilitation after being hit by a car while on a motorcycle. With continuously mounting medical bills and a high mortgage, he is stressed. One adult son is able to help a little, and the younger son attends high school.
- Single mom with four young sons is working 30 hours a week at a fast food restaurant while trying to provide a home for her family. She has had difficulties keeping her utilities on this past year.
- A 35 year old mother with three young children, several months ago her husband left her and the children, leaving them with no financial support, an eviction, and unpaid utility bills. She sold most of their belongings to be able to rent a small apartment.
- A mother in her 50's is in need of financial help. Recently she had surgery that left her permanently paralyzed from the waist down. Mounting medical bills and household expenses have only made this dismal situation worse.
- A mentally challenged man in his 50's who was until recently homeless, was able to get a minimum wage job working 15 hours a week. Everything he earns goes towards his one-room apartment. He does not receive any benefits except for food stamps.
- 56 year old man had to have his leg amputated this past fall because of severe diabetes. He also recently had his gas shut off in his home.
- A very young father of a two year old son was employed in the construction trade without sick days, vacation days or medical insurance. This past fall he was diagnosed with a serious lung condition. He has been unable to work since, and is behind with all his bills, especially with the medical bills.
- Young girl recently suffered a severe closed head injury. She requires 24 hour supervision. The mother has had to restrict her employment and her father has accepted all jobs possible. They are in need of help with medical bills since they are not completely covered.
- Man recently went through a divorce and has custody of the children. He was laid off from work and is waiting for his state assistance. He has been receiving support from his family but needs assistance for Christmas.
- Elderly lady who cares for her grandchildren receives both family and state assistance. She has difficulty meeting all of her financial obligations, including paying for her costly medications.
- Elderly couple's state benefits have been reduced. They have shut-off notices for a number of their bills. The husband is a skilled tradesman and has been accepting odd jobs to care for the family.
- Mother of three is unemployed. Her husband left her and the family and now she is without income, and struggling to make ends meet. She and her children have to relocate because their landlord wants to sell their apartment.
- Single mom with three children is working sporadically and trying to make ends meet. She needs financial assistance with a mortgage payment and utilities. She is looking for a full-time job to catch up with her mounting bills.
- Couple with 3 children; lost the home they had bought with severance pay. The mother has a weakened immune system and other illnesses. The husband is unable to find work. They need assistance with gas money, for doctor's appointments and co-pays on medical bills.
- Grandmother is suffering from cancer. Her son and his two children are living with her, but he has been told he only has a few months to live. Another granddaughter, whose mother died of cancer, lives here, as does a special needs granddaughter with a 3 year old.
- A working mom who just lost her job has two children. Her mother lives with them to help make ends meet. Each month they struggle to pay their bills, medications and put food on the table.
- Grandmother is taking care of her 4 grandchildren younger than 4 years old who were abandoned by her daughter. It is difficult for her to find a reliable babysitter. She does not have a car and relies on public transportation to get to her minimum wage job. She has filed for assistance but has not received help.
- Married couple with 3 children younger than 4 years old. Wife was forced to leave her job because she could not afford to pay for babysitting. She now cleans homes while her husband is with the children. The husband was recently laid off and is receiving unemployment. Bills are piling up and they are struggling to make ends meet.
- Mother has been taking care of her 5 children since her husband died earlier this year. He suffered from cancer and was unable to work for almost 2 years. She is trying to maintain her job, which is difficult because she is on dialysis herself. Her employer has been working with her to keep her job and she has been able to work out a payment plan to keep her house. She tires easily but is committed to her children and still pushes on.
- Couple with 4 children has extensive medical expenses for their infant baby who was born with birth defects. She has had several surgeries but is in need of several more. Their health insurance denied the family's appeal for coverage. The family also supports a terminally ill grandmother.
- Single mother of twins is just out of a shelter and receiving some assistance from the state. She goes out each day looking for a job and is willing to do anything to support her children. She is without a car and relies on public transportation. She has a positive attitude and is certain that better days are headed her way.
- Married couple with three children have fallen on hard times. Husband is disabled and has filed for disability. The wife has lost her job. They were living in a shelter until they filed for a section 8 with the state and are now able to rent a house. Their limited income is stretched to the maximum.
- This Christian family is made up of a father who works 16 hour days, a loving mother trying to make ends meet, and their five children all under the age of 13. One of the children has special needs. Their medical and other expenses have increased beyond what the father can provide through his hourly job.
- Single parent with 3 teenagers has been sick on and off since the beginning of 2008. A number of surgeries prevented her from working for 2 months. After returning to work, her hourly pay of $10.98 has made it difficult to pay back insurance money that covered her while off work and she can't seem to catch up on her bills. Her house has been broken into twice.
- 47 year old mom was in a coma and had surgery on her brain this past year. She has 3 children between 8 and 17 years old. Her only source of income is FIA. She had a fire in her home last year which forced her to move. Her utilities are paid up to date but she is in need of clothing for her children.
- Family of 6 has had a bad year. Mother suffered a closed head injury and cannot work more than 20 hours a week. Father stays at home to tend to the two children with severe medical problems. They also have 2 other children who are full-time students. They need help with Christmas, and medical and utility bills.
- Mother with 4 young children has been abandoned by her husband, leaving them without support. Children have physical, medical, and emotional problems that require the mother to be home. The family needs help with Christmas and utility expenses.
- Parents of nine children both work at low paying jobs after many months of unemployment. They can barely make ends meet. They have never asked for help of any kind, but have always offered whatever help they were able to give.
- A single mother of two children, one of whom is physically disabled and wheel chair bound. Mother recently had major surgery which required her to be off work and to hire care for her daughter. She is appealing a ruling to receive disability pay while recuperating.
- A single mother raising her child alone. She is without health insurance and is dealing with stomach ulcers. Her car was recently vandalized and now is un-drivable. She is without a telephone and relies on donated clothes for herself and her child.
- Single mother of 3 children does not receive child support. She has been off work for a year because of the Mersa virus and has been living on savings which are now gone. It could be six more months before she has her Social Security disability appeal hearing.
- Woman is a part-time staff member at our church. Her husband lost his job last year and has been actively seeking employment without success. They have 3 children, one in college and one heading to college in the fall. They now have to pay for their own medical insurance. They could use the money to pay their mortgage or the insurance.
- Husband and wife are struggling to pay bills, have 3 children under 7 years old. He lost his job and is trying to find a new one. She works part-time and struggles to make ends meet.
- Wife and husband are struggling to pay bills, have 3 children between 2 and 11 years old. She is a stay at home mom. They could use assistance with money to pay their mortgage and for food.
- Husband lost his job this past spring, and has been unable to find a new one. His wife is working 3 jobs to help pay the bills. They have 2 children in college. They are in need of money to help pay their mortgage and utilities.
- Grandmother lives with her daughter and two grandchildren under 7 years old. The daughter is a sometimes recovering drug addict who has HIV, hypertension, diabetes and other health challenges. Her mental state has been compromised by her long time heavy drug use and she can be violent without provocation with the ability to do bodily harm. She receives disability and a check for the children but cashes it before giving the grandmother money to care for the children and herself. The grandmother's job pays slightly above minimum wage; however she pays for Latch Key so the children will not be left alone with their mother.
- Husband is unemployed and the vehicle the couple share is in need of repairs. This family has had it very hard throughout this past year, and any help would make the children very happy this Christmas season.
- The father of a family of four was severely injured a few years ago, and has had several surgeries since then. Any assistance would make Christmas brighter for them.
- Mother and family are having a difficult time. With many medical bills, it is a struggle just to keep up with day to day expenses. She does not know if she will be able to buy her 12 year old anything for Christmas, because she is just trying to keep up with her mortgage, utility bills, and her co-pays for the many prescriptions which she is required to take on a daily basis.
- 69 year old woman resides in a senior citizen complex which has become infested with bed bugs, roaches and gnats. She has been displaced since fall because her apartment is unlivable. They have had to remove a majority of her furniture and winter items. She is currently looking for another place to live and is in need of furniture, winter clothing and financial assistance.
- While father was not able to work, his son was in critical stage condition in the hospital. Now that the son is doing better, the father's company is slowing down and laying off employees. He has been out of work for a couple of months now and does not know if he will get called back. They are in a very bad financial state.
- Woman's husband left her and her 12 year old son a year ago. She was forced to find work but was laid off before she was eligible to receive unemployment. Her health is not good and they have received shut off notices for their heat and lights.
- Mother of two children cannot work because she is epileptic. Her husband works but does not make a lot of money. Relying on one income, it is very hard for them sometimes.
- While completing a home visit for this family, we were surprised to discover how much this family is in need. It is not outwardly apparent, but they are in great need of financial assistance.
- Husband had a 5 valve heart by-pass which was followed by a massive stroke that left him permanently blind and no longer able to work. His wife had 5 strokes this year that has left her unable to work. They are behind on rent and utilities. The majority of the small check they now receive from SSI goes toward rent leaving little for food and other necessities.
- Man's wife abandoned him and his two children under the age of 5. He has been jailed for 2 months for a D.U.I. fine that he could not pay. His aunt is trying to save his rented home so he will have a place for his children to live when he is released and he has been granted a job. He has fallen behind on rent and utilities.
- Single father of 2 children was injured at work. Upon returning to his job he was immediately laid off. Home is in jeopardy of foreclosure.
- Family of 6 is struggling to keep their home. No income for 4 months due to the father's surgery. He will eventually return to work, and is fighting for disability benefits. Christmas looks bleak.
- Father had a repair and handyman business. He has a muscular disease and cannot work. His wife works two jobs to hold the family together.
- Mother is unable to work while recovering from breast cancer. Father is frequently unemployed due to lay offs. One of their two children takes 3 busses to get to school. They are in need of financial assistance for food, clothing and medical care.
- Family with three school age girls. Father was laid off and they have since lost their home. This sad turn of events brought on a medical condition which has created many more challenges. They are struggling to pay the medical bills and every day expenses.
- Recently widowed mother of two girls, whose Veteran benefits have not yet begun, so she is struggling financially. She works full-time. Her car was stolen a few months ago has to take the bus to work everyday, but never misses. She is doing her best to make this Christmas special for her 2 daughters, who are missing their Daddy.
- Mother of two boys 18 and 8 are survivors of Hurricane Katrina. They just recently lost their home to foreclosure and are basically starting from scratch again. Mother works but her hours have been cut drastically and she is finding it hard to make ends meet.
- Single mother of two who works full-time recently took in her sister and three young children who lost their home to foreclosure. She is able to keep up on bills, but has no extra money for Christmas gifts for all five children.
- Mother of three recently had a house fire. She had no insurance, and just moved into another rental house, but needs appliances. She is finding it difficult to ask for help, but would be grateful for any assistance.
- Divorced mother in her early 40's with 2 children, and a sister who lives with her who has some disabilities. Her hours were recently cut from full-time to part-time. Her one child recently was incarcerated and has made her life go into a tailspin.
- Young lady in her thirties has cancer and has been receiving chemotherapy for many years, and still has many more treatments to go. She had many problems before cancer, and now they are out of control. She also has a special needs daughter who is under 4 years old.
- Parents of two children suffered a financial setback because of medical problems requiring surgery and a cutback in jobs in the food industry. They turned to a second mortgage and because of the job change and decreasing home values, they are facing the loss of their home and are having difficulty paying their bills.
- A single parent of an 11 year old is also guardian to her teen-age niece. She recently lost her job due to cut backs in the automobile industry and is now earning a degree at a community college. Making ends meet has been a challenge and funds are needed to help with her utilities.
- Husband has been out of work for several months, and wife's hours have been cut. They are behind in their bills. They have two children.
- Divorced mother of two has been abandoned by her abusive husband. She has a minimum wage job, and her hours have been greatly reduced. She is struggling to put food on the table.
- A physically challenged woman who is confined to a wheel chair needs assistance for the holidays. Her only income is the minimum SSI for her disabilities. After struggling all week to make ends meet, she still manages to find a few dollars to put in the collection basket at Mass.
- Family with five children, ranging from 2 to 15, is barely able to keep a roof over their heads. Husband is unemployed and the unemployment compensation has expired. Wife volunteers in our parish and school.
- Unemployed truck driver needs assistance. Health problems hinder efforts to find more than low paying part-time employment. He has found lodging at several temporary shelters. A substantial portion of his wages is used in commuting to the job sites. The man desperately wants to return to a normal standard of living.
- Father is a music teacher. Due to the poor economy the number of students has decreased. With a new baby and two other children, the family cannot pay all their bills. They are two months behind in mortgage payments and are facing foreclosure. Help is needed to keep this family from becoming homeless.
- Young mother with 7 school age children. Her husband was very abusive. She is now raising her 7 children alone without any help. She works but struggles with food and necessities.
- A single parent of 5 children, whose income from a fast food restaurant is supplemented by FIA. She is behind in her electric bills and rent. Keeping a roof over her family is a constant worry.
- Mother of 2 children has been out of work for over a year. She has a section 8 rental with a low monthly payment. Utilities are her biggest worry. She has been looking for work in the clerical field but without transportation it is even harder.
- Mother of 3 has been separated from her husband for over a year. She has been out of work for 3 years. She has been approved for disability but has not received money as of yet. She needs assistance with her utility bills and clothing for her children.
- Husband has been unemployed for years due to a physical ailment. His wife works two part-time jobs. She has never asked for help but could use assistance.
- Family of eight immigrated to the United States in hopes of finding a better life. The father was the main provider until he was injured and is now unable to work. The eldest son works in his stead while trying to finish college. Their biggest need is food for the children ages 6, 9, 14, and 16, and the utility bill.
