alumni officers
Bill Richardson, right, is the new chairperson of the Alumni Association. Al Sandner, left, was re-elected secretary and Paul Palgut, center was elected vice-chairperson.
In May, the Board of Directors of the Alumni Association held an election to determine the three new officers for the 2008-09 term: a chairperson, vice-chairperson and secretary. The Board of Directors will be electing officers annually.

Msgr. George T. Browne continues in his ex-officio position of alumni director for the seminary. Here are the new officers who are serving their one-year terms.

William E. Richardson, Chairperson
Bill is a 1961 graduate of Sacred Heart Seminary High School and a 1965 graduate of the seminary's college. After leaving the seminary that same year, he began studies at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in Flint, obtaining an electrical engineering degree from that school and an MS in the same field from Auburn University. He later earned an MA in English at the University of South Alabama.

Bill worked in various engineering and management positions for five companies over his thirty-year career in industry, primarily for  nternational Paper, the company from which he retired in 2001. He was also a part-time instructor in technical writing at the University of South Alabama for a number of years. He has served on several parish councils and as a member of the Pastoral Council of the Archdiocese of Mobile. He and his wife Marilyn live in Loveland, Ohio, and are members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Milford, Ohio.

Paul Palgut, Vice-Chairperson
Paul is a retired attorney residing in Auburn Hills, Michigan, with his wife Jan, a retired math teacher. They have two married children: a son living in Royal Oak and a daughter in North Carolina.

Paul entered Sacred Heart Seminary after eighth grade, graduating from the high school in 1963. He earned a BA in English from the college department in 1967. Thereafter, he went on to study theology at St. John Provincial Seminary, where he earned an MA. He functioned as a t ransitional deacon for two years at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral before leaving to begin married life in 1972. Paul earned a JD degree from Detroit College of Law in 1978. He retired from Travelers Insurance Company in December 2007, after twenty-eight years. He specialized in workers compensation litigation. Paul is a former president of the Catholic Lawyers' Society. Paul and Jan enjoy family, friends, travel and golf. They are members of St. Irenaeus Parish in Rochester Hills.

Alois Sandner, Secretary
Al entered Sacred Heart Seminary High School in 1948, graduated in 1952 and received his BA from the college in 1956. After a year at St. John Provincial Seminary and some journalism and political science classes at Wayne State University, he began a career in journalism.

Al worked for several Detroit-area weekly newspapers, then the state capitol bureaus for the Associated Press and The Detroit News. In 1973, he joined the staff of Gov. William G. Milliken and worked there, eventually as press secretary, until the end of the administration in 1982. He became media relations director (and some-time acting director) of the state tourism bureau, until he retired in 1997. For the next nine years, he edited The Travel Writer for the Society of American Travel Writers and continues as a part-time freelance writer. He and his wife Shirley share a house and garden a mile west of the Michigan state capitol and of St. Mary Cathedral, their home parish.

The Alumni Board of Directors consists of Carl Castiglione, Ray Hillen, Patricia Ernst, Fr. William Herman, John Sailer, Glenn Porzadek, Msgr. William Easton and Cortland Book.
