A strong appreciation for the multifaceted and challenging role of the lay faithful lies at the root of the Formation Program at the Institute for Ministry.
Sacred Heart Major Seminary's mission is to prepare leaders for ministerial service within the Church. The Formation Program consists of several components that are: Spiritual Formation, Personal Formation and Ministerial Formation.
Spiritual Formation
Spiritual Formation opportunities at SHMS are:
- Spiritual Direction
Referral for Spiritual Direction is available upon request at Sacred Heart Major Seminary through the Institute for Ministry.
- Retreat
Referral for Retreat is available upon request at Sacred Heart Major Seminary through the Institute for Ministry.
Personal Formation
Personal formation opportunities at SHMS are:
- A structured interview with the appropriate faculty member to determine capacity for ministry. Undergraduates: contact the Institute for Ministry; Graduates: contact Chairperson of MA/MAPS Admissions Committee.
Ministerial Formation
Ministerial Formation opportunities at SHMS are:
- Parish Ministry
Students are expected to be actively engaged in some parish ministry.
- Ministerial Evaluation Process
Students are expected to engage in a Ministerial Evaluation process upon completion of each academic course of study.
