New Faculty Members Bring Scholarship, Leadership
by Fr. Todd Lajiness, Dean of Studies
MOSAIC, Fall 2008

Sacred Heart Major Seminary continues to be a vibrant institution of academic and pastoral excellence, providing leadership and formation opportunities for students who will be sent to serve, preach and bear witness to Christ. At the heart of this activity is the dedicated group of faculty members who lead students to encounter Christ in new and transformative ways. With recent departures and transfers in the faculty, the seminary is pleased to introduce two new faculty members and the reassignment of one current faculty member.

Dr. Peter Williamson. With the departure this year of Fr. Francis Martin, the Adam Cardinal Maida Chair in Sacred Scripture, the seminary began a search to fill this important endowed chair. As the search concluded, Dr. Peter Williamson, who has been a faculty member at Sacred Heart for seven years, emerged as the ideal candidate.

Dr. Williamson has a proven record in the classroom, using a variety of pedagogical methods to encourage students to deepen their knowledge of Sacred Scripture. He is recognized within local and national associations as a consultant and speaker, and in publishing, with numerous articles and the coediting of a new Catholic Scripture
commentary series to be published soon. Dr. Williamson is a dedicated professor and holds an MA from Sacred Heart Major Seminary, as well as an STB, STL and STD in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University. We look forward to the many contributions Dr. Williamson will make to Sacred Heart and to the Church through his teaching, speaking and writing.

Dr. Mary Healy. With the movement of Dr. Williamson to the Adam Cardinal Maida Chair in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Heart is blessed with the arrival of Dr. Mary Healy as associate professor of Sacred Scripture. Dr. Healy received her BA from the University of Notre Dame, an MA in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and an MA in philosophy from Catholic University of America. She completed her STD in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University.

Dr. Healy has served for a number of years as the coordinator of the Mother of God lay community in Gaithersburg, Maryland. She has published a number of articles and also books, which include coediting The Bible and Epistemology and "Behind" the Text: History and Biblical Interpretation, and authoring Men and Women are from Eden: A Study Guide to John Paul II's Theology of the Body. Dr. Healy is effective in the classroom and has a passion for breaking open the richness of the inspired Word for students.

Fr. Stephen Burr. Formation is at the heart of our work at the seminary. Father Burr was appointed to the Sacred Heart faculty by Cardinal Adam Maida on July 1, 2008, as assistant director of undergraduate formation. He is also assigned to the faculty of the College of Liberal Arts. Father Burr earned his AB at Sacred Heart in 1998, and then his MDiv in 2002. He was ordained on May 18, 2002.

Father Burr has served the Detroit archdiocese as parochial vicar at St. Andrew Parish (2002-2005), Church of the Divine Child (2005-2007), and most recently at Our Lady of Good Counsel (2007-2008). He also has served the archdiocese on the Assignment Board from 2004-2006. The variety of experiences that Father Burr brings to Sacred Heart will be a tremendous addition to the formation program for the undergraduate seminarians.
